EC says gives no new instructions on transit to Kaliningrad

BRUSSELS, Jun 30 (PRIME) -- The European Commission has not published yet new recommendations on transit of goods to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad from the rest of the country through Lithuania, no deadline for the publication is also available, an official representative of the European Commission Dana Spinant said at a briefing on Thursday.

“We cannot divulge the content of possible future instructions. We keep in touch with the Lithuanian authorities. Any additional instructions will be given to all EU member states and will be published when ready, but we cannot say anything new on this issue,” she said.

The European Commission also specified that the problem with the transit of some goods to Kaliningrad has arisen only now, "as a number of E.U. sanctions against Russia (metallurgy and building materials) have come into force only now after a short transition period.”

Earlier in June, the Lithuanian railways notified the Kaliningrad railways about termination of transit of some goods, sanctioned by the E.U., since June 18. Transit of oil products to the Kaliningrad Region is to continue until August 10.
